Reiki is always something I’ve had a huge interest in. As an avid fan of energy work and lover of anything that almost sounds a little mystical, I couldn’t wait to find out more from someone who knows best.
Meet Bryony! Bryony has been a friend for a few years now after having both met at work. Due to the nature of our past job, holistic care was a huge passion for both of us and this led to a fab friendship! Fast forward a couple of years and we spent a week in Sri Lanka with another two friends on an Ayurvedic retreat, have had countless spiritual chats (usually over a glass of fizz) and it has been truly inspirational to watch her define the word “therapist”.
Bryony is now self- employed and looks after her clients with a long list of accolades such as reflexologist, aromatherapist, masseuse, beautician, facialist and now a Reiki Master (the list goes on…)
The lovely Bryony
After a recent dinner where we talked astrology, the universe and the future – I came away thinking I’d love to do a bit of a blog on this special lady! I hope you enjoy the below and get to know a little more about reiki in the process.
So first of all, what is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique. It stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself. It is a truly relaxing experience with powerful psychological and physical benefits.
What attracted you to the practice?
I was already a masseuse and reflexologist and was just intrigued to find out what it was all about. I did the first degree 5 years ago and enjoyed it but didn’t quite “get” it until I really needed it. Last year, I experienced it’s benefits and was very grateful I had the skill to use and practice on myself. This year, I qualified as a Reiki Master Teacher which is the highest level possible because I am passionate about being able to share this wonderful gift with others.
Who would benefit most?
Absolutely anyone, any age, gender, pets, even plants!! Reiki can’t cause any harm.
Positivity benefits every living thing!
How should you prepare before a Reiki treatment?
We just recommend drinking water before and after the treatment to help the body heal. Arrive with an open mind and let the healer be your guide.
What normally takes place in a Reiki session?
The client will lay fully clothed on a treatment bed and be made comfortable. Ideally you should want to close your eyes and try to relax as much as you can. The Healer will then generally start on the guest’s shoulders by laying their hands over the clothes or a few inches above the person. The energy will travel through the Healer and into the client and can sometimes be felt as heat or tingling. The Reiki energy will release blockages and negative tension and rebalance the body. The Healer will then move to where its needed and generally finish on the feet. The client may quite possibly drift off to another place or to sleep.
How often should you have Reiki?
You can practice Reiki on yourself everyday. You cannot overdose on Reiki and most of my clients will come weekly or monthly.
What would you say to the sceptics?
Most people who are sceptical just don’t understand what it is or are afraid of what it might do. Best thing to do is try it and then you will know! Remember – nothing can go wrong!
Did anything surprise you whilst learning about it?
How it has changed my life. Energy, Ki, Chi or Biofields are all names for the same thing. Everything we think, say or do gives off a vibration which effects us and the people around us. Being aware of energy and how we can attract more positivity into our lives is a gift.
What advice would you give to beginning practitioners?
Reiki is not just for people who want to heal others. The first degree is to learn how to use Reiki for yourself, family and friends. It’s a two day course and you receive attunements from your Reiki Master to open up your Reiki channel. Everyone can receive Reiki, so just enjoy it as you will find it shows up in your life when you are ready to start your journey.
Any last words?
Listen to your body – it knows you best ♥
In terms of cost, Bryony says a good guideline is to pay around £50 per session. For those of you lucky enough to live in the South of England, Bryony charges £40 a session and £120 for a 2 Day course which will allow you to be a level one Reiki healer and have a toolbox which you can use to help heal yourself and friends or family members.
After this blog and the last couple of anxiety filled weeks, I am even more intrigued and can’t wait to book my first session. Thank you Bryony for your time and I look forward to what the universe has in store for you next!
As always readers, please let me know if you have any questions or comments. xo
